Thanks. I never see that card up for sale

I am assuming you have passed me up on PSA 10 graded cards. I only have 586 different PSA 10's of Juan Gonzalez.

You can have one more chance at the card.

Seller now has one listed as buy it now for $111 for all that are interested.

JUAN GONZALEZ MINOR LEAGUE PROMO CARD ISSUED WITH NO STATS BACK - PROCARD 1990

nosterbor 03-27-2012 04:18 PM

they have now come out of the woodwork. wounder how many he has? thats 3 in a few days. so how hard is it to make a copy? how rare are they, if ligit.

538 03-27-2012 04:51 PM

Rob,

About 15 years ago I contacted Sports Collectors Digest (SCD). Bob Lemke who is the editor had never seen one before. Jonas probably has a better memory of the issue but as I recall this card was only given out at a minor league game for one day as a freebee. They are actually very rare. At the time I think that Jonas, Alan (AKAR) and I finally ended up with one each. I do not think Chris had one. I cannot say if this guy who is selling them is printing them or if they are real. I have never seen him sell Gonzalez items before so I do not really know who he is. He originally listed the card for .99 cents so I sent him an email and offered $20 if he ended the auction. He ended the auction and was surprised that I offered $20. He is a fast learner based on the price he is now asking. I do not know how he could have acquired so many since they did not appear for many years on ebay. I was happy with the one I had before he came along. Now he has two more for sale. We do not know if he has more. Either I made a great buy at $20 or I add another card to my fake card collection.

he probably had several and was shocked the 1st went so high.... now he wants that much for each copy. I never had one and had I still had my collection, $111 would be a price I would have paid. cool story... i have never heard it before. I was high bidder on a Gonzo lot in the late 90's and put a $60 bid on it (at the time, that was high for almost anything) only to get sniped at the end. it had been the only one that i had ever seen come up for sale.

Maybe you did not have this card but you still snipped me for the Footlocker card in the 90's and I still do not have a Footlocker. I would have to change my official collection to 539 if I ever got one.

Which one of you offered $111? Roberto, did the cash register open up?

Dear 2725,

I'm going to put a BIN up at the price of $111.00 FYI This is the price I had been offered a few days ago.

Great info Dan. Please let us know when you get the card. Just check the card thickness to the original, they should be the same. Very interesting. Thank You.

Why should I offer $111.00 for a card I already have???

Chris,

Let's get real. You guys outbid me on a daily basis. The last time I was truly interested was the 4 Ted Williams auto cards and that was a long time ago. Even for the PSA cards, Rob regularly outbids me. As a small time collector with 538 cards I am happy with my little collection.

Dan

mcabee2 03-28-2012 09:49 PM

538... wow. I only have 57 different and that a true count.

Dan

How much did the 4 TW autos bring? Did any of them have red ink?

538 03-29-2012 04:33 PM

I don’t really remember what I paid for each of the four Ted Williams autograph cards but I want to say around $500 each. I saw some go for a lot more than that especially when Will drove up the prices.
The more difficult cards to come by were the unnumbered Ted Williams cards. I have three of the four unnumbered cards. When I bought the unnumbered cards I started corresponding by email and then called the guy a couple of times. He had some very interesting stories. I actually believe he was the real deal and not fabricating BS. He was one of the people who flew to Puerto Rico to get Juan’s signature on the cards (both numbered and vault cards which were unnumbered). They did not bring an unlimited supply of cards as they were not expecting any problems. Stuff happens in life. The problem they had was when they got there, the ink would not stick. They freaked out because they were told specifically what pen to use. I don’t remember if he said they used the blue or the black ink first. This is why there are two colors for the 4 autograph cards. I saved the emails with him but I have not seen them around the house in several years. I could have tossed them.
I don’t mean any disrespect but I believe that your red card is a fake. Based on the conversations and emails I had with the guy the only colors used for the autograph were blue and black. That is why there was never a red card that ever showed up anywhere until your card popped up. This is only my opinion and others are free to believe what they want. Obviously I have no proof that that red card is fake nor am I implying that you created a fake card. I am not in the authenticating business. My opinion is that if the color red would have worked when they were there to get the signatures, they would have stayed with the red color and there would be a lot more red cards.
On the other hand, I only have 538 cards which nobody has ever seen so don't take my word for anything.
