Track Your Collection Here

1 Attachment(s)
If you track your collection using our list, here is one of the features that you can make use of:

Attachment 72

Gonzaleznut 09-12-2006 08:41 PM

So how do other members start using the collection tracker?

freddie 09-12-2006 09:01 PM

When you go to the collections, choose a year and you should see an "Edit" link next to where it says how many cards were found, example:

Juan Gonzalez Cards - 1 card(s) found - [Edit]

Click that edit link and the page will refresh with a + and - next to each card. You double click on those icons to increase/decrease a card. If you have any issues let me know.

freddie 09-13-2006 03:21 PM

You can now view other member's collections from the main collecting screen. I will add an option to each collector's profile so that they can choose to keep their collection private. It is open for all to view at the moment though.

That option has now been added to your profile. If you want to make your collection private go to http://juangonzalez.vintagegaming.or...do=editprofile and select 'Yes' for keep collection private. Others can still see your total number of cards but they can not see what your actual cards are.

Gonzaleznut 09-14-2006 02:52 AM

I want to know if you can provide a total value for a collection based on teh Beckett prices you have listed. I should simply be a matter of summing the # of cards x hi beckett price. Let me know.

freddie 09-14-2006 05:51 AM

Yeah I can do that but it will be way under with all of the N/A values.

freddie 09-14-2006 06:07 AM

Ok values added.

Gonzaleznut 09-14-2006 02:18 PM

I know it would not be perfect because of all of the cards not priced, but it could still give an idea of the value for the mainstream cards.

freddie 09-14-2006 04:38 PM

I've broken down the values for each year so take a look on the main collecting page.

Gonzaleznut 09-14-2006 05:27 PM

I saw it. It looks great. I am very impressed. I hope that more collectors take advantage of the tool you have provided them.

Thanks, it is only going to get better as I have time to implement more features.

Gonzaleznut 09-15-2006 05:04 PM

Well Freddie, What do you think about my collection? I have got them all catalogued now on your list.

freddie 09-15-2006 05:21 PM

Impressive, though I think you still need to fill in the Star Rookie Guild and Star The Future sets since I broke them down to individual cards.

You should invest in a scanner so that when I get the image option for the card list going, you can contribute images for the list.

Another helpful task would be to save nice images from eBay auctions for inclusion on the list.

Gonzaleznut 09-15-2006 05:22 PM

You can take any images you want from my "Rare Cards Gallery" on my page that you want. Most of them were saved from eBay auctions.

Gonzaleznut 09-15-2006 05:24 PM

I got my Star cards added.

You mean I have something that you don't? The Star promo and prototype cards?

Gonzaleznut 09-15-2006 05:36 PM

I guess so.

I got all of those cards from the guy that was featured as the Juan Gonzalez super collector in Beckett.

Gonzaleznut 09-15-2006 09:21 PM

I remember seeing that Beckett and thinking how much I would like to be that guy. He has emailed me recently wanting to sell off his collection. He has also been selling a lot of cards on eBay lately.

I am very good friends with Rob (nosterbor on eBay). He lives in Florida and has the most incredible Juan collection in terms of total volume of Juan cards. He has over 35,000 total cards all in top loaders and in order. He stores them in 5000 count boxes.

To give you an idea, he has 65 of the 2005 Prime Patches Major League Material Autographed card.

I went down to his house last year and we just looked at Juans for 4 days. We did some trading and cataloging of his collection. It was awesome.

I have also met with Chris (mcabee1 on eBay) a couple of times to compare collections. I have bought some stuff from him before. His collection is also very impressive. He has almost every card up to 1996 except the Williams Autos.

Needless to say, there are some cool guys out there who collect Juan.

Hmm I thought the guy in Beckett had sold off his collection long ago as it must have been 5+ years now that I bought the Star cards from him. I also bought the poster that is in the background of the picture in the article. Do you know which beckett that he is in offhand?

Yes I've noticed that he seems intent on buying every copy of that card that comes on eBay. I can't fathom why that is but I'm sure he has his reasons.

Yes I've dealt with Chris a few times over the past ten years as well.

The person who has helped me out the most over the years is Jonas, jttl1. At the time, he seemed to know the most about every Juan Gonzalez card and provided me with numerable scans to point out variations. He also knew which cards were actually very rare but sold for pennies when they appeared (such as some of the TOPPS A/B/C/D type cards). I've lost contact with him in the last few years and don't see him on eBay any longer.

freddie 09-30-2006 04:21 PM

Another update.

I've implemented a preliminary chnage that will now allow you to see who has extra cards that you need and who needs a card that you have extras of.

When viewing the list, if a row highlights in YELLOW then someone on the list needs that card and you have extras of it. If a row highlights in BLUE, then you need that card and someone on the list has extras of it.

You still have to click on the card to see who though. Let me know if you notice anything going on funny with this change.

freddie 09-30-2006 04:22 PM

For example, this card shows up in yellow for me:

1995 Topps Cyber Season in Review

When I view it, I see that Gonzaleznut doesn't have a copy, whereas I have two.

For this to work best, you of course have to enter all of your extras. It is a long process but I am working on entering mine.

Gonzaleznut 09-30-2006 04:59 PM

I like that idea. Too bad I don't have any extra cards. I just shipped all of my doubles to nosterbor.

Does he just want to amass as many Juan cards as possible?

Once I get all of my doubles input, I'll see who can use any and ship them out to you guys.

Perhaps this newest feature will convince more Juan collectors to join and take part in this endeavor. I'm sure some don't see it as a competition and would like to take part.

I guess. He is actually a pretty great guy. He just moved so he hasn't been able to get on here much because he only has dial up for now in his new house. As soon as he gets high speed he will probably add his collection and you won't believe it.

He has well over 30,000 total cards. He has over 3,200 different. He specializes in the low numbered cards. He might have 10-15 of a card numbered to 19 or 25. One of his big goals is to have the entire print run for a card. That would be incredible.

The 2005 Prime Patches MLB Materials Auto card is pretty common. He has 75 of them.

That would be great. I think it is great when fellow collectors can help each other out.

A few years ago Jonas really helped me a ton by sending me some doubles. He sent me some really great stuff. I really appreciated that. If you are reading Jonas, thanks!!

Again, I am still surprised that more haven't started helping. Do you realize Freddie that we have to upload almost 10,000 images if we want a scan of every card front and back. That is a monumental undertaking.

By the way, I am thinking about getting a scanner just so I can scan in my cards to this site.

freddie 09-30-2006 11:01 PM

A scanner helps alot but when I said "take part", I just meant it would be nice if others tracked their cards as well so we could see who has what and more easily help each other. I don't expect anyone to devote a lot of time to adding pictures so I am very grateful to anyone who does.

Gonzaleznut 09-30-2006 11:43 PM

I have already added probably 300 pictures by searching ebay and other places on the web.

Gonzaleznut 10-01-2006 12:12 AM

I don't think the collections are working right. When I try to go look at Jonas's cards by year to see what he has it just pulls up my collection. What gives?

Try it now.

jjt111 10-01-2006 06:17 AM

Thanks for the kind words guys. We all need each other for it to be done correctly. I seen on Mike's site that Jacob(juan19) said he had a complete list he would share with him. Without alot of feedback from others I really doubt that it is even close to complete. I bought cards from Chris(Mcabee1) at beckett buy/sell as early as 1998 and spent alot of time working with Dan(2725) on ebay doing 98 and 99. Just a note that he has "all" cards from 87 - 96 except 3 that I'm aware of. He has all the Ted cards! Great family guy as well!
To get a complete list with or without pictures will be a tough goal for any group of collectors. Scanners are a must to show examples on difficult versions like those damn 99 Prism cards. Lets "get er done" when ever we can spare the time!
Jonas

jjt111 10-01-2006 06:56 AM

Mike's list has all these and more but your list here should get these on.

2000 4 Fleer Focus Focal Points Striking is numbered to 50.
2000 420 Pacific Copper numbered to 99
2000 420 Pacific Platinum Blue to 75
2000 103 Pacific Crown Collection Premiere Date to 27
2000 103 Pacific Crown Collection Holographic Purple to 199
2000 55 Pacific Invincible Platinum Blue to 67
2000 55 Pacific Invincible Holographic Purple to 299
2000 51 Pacific Omega Platinum Blue to 55
2000 51 Pacific Omega Copper to 45

There is no 2000 Topps Tek gold on list. There are 20 of them numbered to 10.

Jonas

freddie 10-01-2006 08:13 AM

I've only got up to 1999 in adding all of the serial numbers so that explains why 2000 is missing some.

I have also found a few cards that have numbers that aren't marked on Mike's list. Don't recall which, but I did add them to the list here.

Fixed

Gonzaleznut 10-03-2006 01:42 PM

I have several scans from Chris (mcabee1). Some of them are of cards you don't have on the list including the prototypes for the 98 Donruss cards (xxx/). What do you want me to do with them?

Gonzaleznut 10-03-2006 02:29 PM

Go look at the 1998 Studio Masterstrokes Pics and you will see the back of one of the prototypes (xxx/)

freddie 10-03-2006 03:02 PM

You can just attach them to a post right here and you can also list all of the cards and I can more easily add them, including those without scans.

Gonzaleznut 10-03-2006 03:17 PM

Check your email...I just sent you one.
