HIGH Prices!!!

Well, everything is going for unbelievably high prices. At some point Roberto has to run out of money right?? Then the rest of us can buy cards again for reasonable amounts.

Is it just a supply and demand issue that keeps driving prices so high? I think it is just that Roberto wants to catch up to the top of the list. :rolleyes::rolleyes::D:D

freddie 05-27-2008 03:19 AM

The negative effect of this website in action. This is the reason that I don't start other websites about my hobbies, don't want to run prices up.

adelith 05-27-2008 10:28 AM

Yes masters, I'm your creature, your creation.
Stop crying!!!
Maybe I should remember you, that we were all invited to join this page, but we were paying huge amounts of $ way before. Right now prices are low, since Juan is out of MLB, but like I'd just said in the past, many of you collects cards of a baseball player, I collect pictures of a friend.
After all, is only money!

Gonzaleznut 05-27-2008 02:34 PM

I'm not crying. As I have said before, I am a patient collector. I am content to wait for the cards I need at reasonable prices. I really try not to overpay for something.

Good luck Roberto, you will never catch Rob. To make up the 200+ cards you will need tremendous luck to find the cards and a mint to buy 'em.

By the way, I know I will never catch hime either.

nosterbor 05-27-2008 09:57 PM

it is all about supply and demand.like i stated,the supply on his low numbered cards is about dryed up! i now have 6 people buying my cards.some are not even on this web site.set builders!! when they are gone ,thats it.good luck! also lets see who has more BASEBALL CARDS.take away the ODDBALL CRAP!
Rob=3659
Mike=3566
Sam=3554
Roberto=3370
Kevin=3034
Joans=2969
i am shooting for 3900 cards,there are way to many #/10 and #/5 cards and 1/1's i will not be passed in total card count,it will not happen.Arrogant? YOU BET!

nosterbor 05-28-2008 04:33 AM

WHAT DID I TELL YOU? AND PEOPLE BAULK AT THE PRICES I GIVE!!!!!!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEDW:IT&ih=008

Gonzaleznut 05-28-2008 01:23 PM

Yeah...that is absolutely insane!! I am half tempted to sell my collection if I can get those kind of prices.

nosterbor 05-28-2008 02:12 PM

and it seems there are only 4 serious collectors left on this site! i wish the others would sell out! from 1st to 5th is 500 cards,thats a lot,from 4th to 5th is over 300.all those collectors have given up! i guess they wish is was the 90's so they could pay outragious prices again! like Roberto said "his cards are DIRT CHEAP" EVEN THO THE PRICES SEEM HIGH!. i can remember that aircorp was paying $300 for the 2003 leaf limited emerald #/5 and $150 for the monikers #/25 and over $300 for the button cards.we are paying 20% of that.thats cheap to me.look up some Albert Pujols #100 auto's for 200 bucks? i think he will be like Juan and be hurt all the time when he hits 30.then those collectors will complain when they have to pay $30 for that same #100 auto card.get what you can now! they are not printing any more!

juanfan19 05-28-2008 04:26 PM

I'm just too lazy to add my cards, my collection would be in the top 4... one of these days I will do it..

If you are willing to spend $15,000 - $20,000 then we can talk. I would only sell it as one big chunk.

adelith 05-29-2008 04:03 AM

Hope you find someone then who want the whole nine yards, sorry, I'm only interesting in what I need, no the whole stuff. ;)

SAM JOHNSON 05-29-2008 05:21 AM

Howdy again,i would just like to say i think his cards are priced very nicely. a friend of mine was tired of trying to build the topps tek sets and sold me all of his Juan Gonzalez cards. i paid $45 for each gold and $18 for each defractor.this was a bargin to me,i was paying double that in 1999.since it is so hard to find cards you need it is a joy to find any at any price.Sam

Gonzaleznut 05-29-2008 01:38 PM

Hey Sam, If you can afford that much for Juans then you should be able to afford $150 for a good scanner so that you can share scans of some of the gems of your collection. ;);)

I believe his collection is impressive as he put almost all that together when prices were insane and without eBay. Doesn't really compare to sitting at the computer and buying cards from eBay and various other websites.

Gonzaleznut 05-29-2008 07:52 PM

Impressive to one is idiotic to another. It is all a matter of perspective.

Although I agree that Akar and Dan have impressive early collections, their lack of committment to continue is disconcerting.

To each his own. All of us have things within our collections that are unique and special. Each way has merit.

I would still love to see Jacob (Juanfan19), Chris (mcabee1) and Wil (aircorp42k) put their collections here on the site. I am sure that each of them have items that would be impressive to the other collectors here.

To think of the time that was spent on everyones collection is impressive. Doing this time period, 15 plus years, alot has happened for everyone. It's good to see and get to know the collectors of the time period through this forum. In the beginning it wasn't this easy and much more costly. I'll always have respect for those helped make is easier for me with lists, vendor names and friendship. Freddie is correct when he said the forum bumped the prices a bit as we all are competitive in nature. Alan, Dan, Chris and Wil still will be remembered as pioneers of Juan collectors. Some still collect when the urge hits or that special card strikes their interest which I don't think is alarming or disconcerting. They just rearranged what is more important to them at the present time. I enjoy looking at everyones collection on here and am glad when a card ends up in one of collections and not like the 02 Ovations card. So get after them when you can and for as much as you are willing to pay. They will only get cheaper but as Rob says impossible to find.

good point! i did not have ebay until 4 years ago.mostly doing shows and looking in phone books and beckett adds and calling around. it was tuff! Sam does not put scans because of his dial up! have any of you had a speed of 11 kb??? it sucks!!!!!takes 15min just to make a bid on ebay! been there done that! however in the 90's i could go to a show every day to find cards.every show had 100 tables or more with diff dealers around chicago.most of them travled the country to buy and sell.to me it was better then than ebay is now!! so to quit collecting in 95-well as the songs goes-"that dont impress me much"

Rafferity 05-30-2008 05:54 AM

I agree!! I miss the card shows, it did take time to drive to them or just to wait impatiently for the next show, but worth it most of the time......we use to have 4-5 a year down here in the Texarkana area. 40+ tables...or at least drive to Dallas and get in on the big shows. I haven't seen any lately in the past years, of any worth 15-25 tables, too drive for them. I guess I could take time off, and hit Houston when the have the big shows. Internet has taken some of the fun of scrounging in bins and boxes at shows, don't get me wrong, when I was told of this site, I have found some cards that have eluded me, and that I am grateful for.
It's been hectic at work, 3 people have quit and only going to replace one of them....thinking of using some OT for some of Juan's big cards, I need.:cool: Hadn't really had time to really look on ebay or check here for some extras I need. I'm ready to get back in there.;)

nosterbor 05-30-2008 06:11 AM

what kind of work do you do?

Rafferity 05-30-2008 06:42 AM

I'm at the hospital in supplies on night shift.

adelith 05-30-2008 06:48 PM

For some of us to go to a show means to travel by plane since Puerto Rico is an Island. $500.00 + to Texas or $300.00 + to Florida Means too expensive, Thanks God is ebay! ;)

Yes that is true....Forgot our oversea friends on the show parts....Sorry:o Ebay is great!!....I found cards from Japan that I've needed in the past.

Gonzaleznut 06-06-2008 09:29 PM

I have to say that I am getting a little frustrated...Roberto is winning every rare Juan card on eBay. Did I say frustrated...I meant pissed!!

jjt111 06-07-2008 05:15 AM

I have so many needs that Rob can fill I'm not worried about a card here and there but there are a couple that I will win for sure if I decide I should add them to my collection. I would of liked that 1/20 SP that Roberto got as well but Mike wanted it even more then me. I'm sure a 11/20 or another one will come up and we'll both go after it as well. I just hope it ends in one of our collections!

I don't know why you guys can't work out an arrangement about the bidding.

What would be fair??

Gonzaleznut 04-20-2009 07:41 PM

Insane prices!!!! Roberto, you are spending crazy money to get some of these cards. Are you ever going to run out of money? Or at least let some of us common folk have a shot?

nosterbor 04-20-2009 09:27 PM

i do not think so! it will be different when i get this house mess finnished and back to work!

Since the only one who ever saw my collection was Alan (Akar), about 10 years ago, none of you really know what I have.

You can make fun of my collection and numbers all you want.

I happen to like my little collection. It actually takes a very long time for me to look at my little collection. I may not have 4,000 cards but quality is better than quantity in my book.

If 1994 is when you think I stopped collecting then have it your way.

I may have to reduce my card count back to 536 since someone guessed that I could have two more cards.

nosterbor 04-21-2009 02:21 PM

that thread was posted on 5-28-08 almost a year ago? why are you just now responding to it? also i do think 4 ted autos would be thought of as a higher quality than 619 #25 or less cards i have 279 doubles want to trade? i also think Roberto would think those 4 Teds are better quality than his 52 1/1's:p;):p

Gonzaleznut 04-21-2009 02:42 PM

I would much rather have 200 different cards SN 25 or less than the 4 Ted Williams autos. No question. Give me quantity every day. It gives me more cool stuff to look at!!

freddie 04-21-2009 03:37 PM

I'll take the 52 1/1s, thank you.

Mike,

I could have 150 different SN 25 or less plus maybe or maybe not the 4 TW auto cards for all anyone knows. I know I have more different PSA 10's than anyone including Rob. So my little quality collection may not be 4,000 cards but it makes me happy!

I have listed everything I have........ I have many magazine covers that you dont have pics for but good luck trying to get me to scan all that crap. As I have said many times, I would sell my entire collection for $10k, but only as a whole. It could tip the scales for you guys at the top. Either way, I dont care. I will continue to bid on stuff I want. If one of you win it instead, congrats at whatever the price.
