Juan in HOF
The best thing for Juan's chances of getting into the HOF happened yesterday...Andre Dawson's election certainly paves the way for Juan getting in. Their stats are eerily similar and Juan did his in 5 less seasons.
The wild card in all of this is the stereroid issue. It will certainly take 5 or more years for Juan to get elected, but I do not see how you can elect Andre Dawson and not elect Juan Gonzalez. Begin lobbying to your favorite BBWA writer because Juan is on the ballot this next year.

Juan is never going to be elected as though we all know Juan was a better hitter than Dawson, Dawson had the stuff HOF voters go for.
1. 8 All Stars 2. Power + Speed though he only broke 30 three times, 300+ SB 3. 2700+ Hits Juan 1. All Star only three times 2. No speed 3. Less than 2000 hits What Juan has: 1. 19th highest career slugging percentage 2. 15th career AB per Home run |

Dawson .279/22/80 slug .482 ops .806 Gonzalez .295/36/117 slug .561 ops .904 what player would you want on yore team? also Dawson hit 40 hr ONCE! Juan 5 times Dawson had 4 season's of 100+ RBI's Juan 8! what player would you want! Dawson had all those knee problems how do you think he played through it! and do not tell me he took nothing to play with that kind of pain! but as Sandberg says they played the natural way,the hide it and sweep it under the rug way! as far as being an all star? you can stick that in the mud! Larkin made the all team as a starter one year and was batting .238!!! baseball writers have NOOOOO Brains what so ever! nor do most fans! enter the players total stats into a computer and let it choose who goes in the hall, based on what that player does on the field unless he does something real bad! but i have anger issues! It will never happen. Juan's career ended on a bad note. Always hurt, missing a lot of games. Although not proven, Juan is one of those players that used roids. There was the airport incident with the roids in the bag. That will never be forgotten.
Juan had a great chance to become a great player and future HOF'er. However, he blew it! Regards, Tony |

Don't forget that Juan was a complete jerk about playing in the All Star game when he would not go. That will also come back to bite him. At this stage it is a popularity contest where you get graded not on what you did but how you did it. The stats are only useful with 500 HR unless you are Barry Bonds and use steroids and come off like a complete jerk. Personally I would like to see Juan Gonzalez in the HOF but the bad press concerns me about him getting the vote. On talent he is worthy of HOF.
