Juan Moved to the Inactive List by the Ducks
DUCKS CATCH BASS FOR PLAYOFF RUN Hard-hitting outfielder to bolster lineup “Jayson was dominating in both leagues that he played in earlier this season,” says Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. “We are excited to be able to add his power and consistency to our lineup for our title hunt.” Bass comes to Long Island after splitting time with Monclova (AAA) of the Mexican League and Nashua of the Can Am League (Ind.). In just 58 games (205 at-bats) in Nashua and Mexico, the power-hitting outfielder clobbered 15 home runs, drove in 39 runs and had a combined batting average of .351. In a full season of action with Saltillo of the Mexican League in 2005, Bass hit .370 with 23 home runs and 91 RBI in 392 trips to the plate. Selected in the fifth round of the 1993 draft by the Detroit Tigers, the 14-year veteran has seen action in 1,310 minor league games, has hit 194 home runs and owns a career .292 average. To make room for Bass on the roster, Long Island has placed two-time American League MVP Juan Gonzalez on the team’s inactive list. |

Was it because he is injured or has he had it with playing in the independent league since he isn't going to get signed to a Major League team now that it is past Aug 31?

Yeah...he's done for the year. He actually hit pretty well when healthy.

I'm sure he would have no problem contributing at a high level to a major league team next year. The question is, will any one bother to take the chance when it is most likely that he will come up lame at some point, or multiple points.
Perhaps the Orioles, they seem to have no direction. |
