Cut out cards

I am considering removing all of the "cut out" cards from the list. These are the cards that were part of something else, mostly in a magazine, that were cut down to the individual size.

What are thoughts on this?

I would agree to take them out, but I am sure that I will be in the minority on that.

First order would be the make a list of the proposed cut out cards that would be cut from the list

My opinion is the complete opposite of you guys. Mike doesn’t have game cards or magazine cards in his list yet he has Kenner Starting Line up cards that come with that doll which I thought long and hard before I added them. Buying a doll so I can get a card didn't feel as good as buying a magazine. Now Freddie’s doesn't have but 2 game cards (2001 – 2002 APBA) but they made them as far back as 1992 with many other companies as well. From what I’m hearing those 2002 sample cards are called Beckett cards as they were in the Beckett magazine. Years ago they just stuck a card on a box or magazine and gave you lines to cut on, like the 1998 Hamburger Helper card that is on Mikes list. To me if it was meant to be a collectable card, it’s in my collection and on my list. I had to add coins, (thanks Pinnacle) magnets, posters and pins to my list over the years. To me a complete list is all those. I’ve had to maintain my list as others, Alan’s and Dan’s, stopped in 96 and it has been difficult to do alone. If you eliminate something off the list where is the gain? As far as I’m concerned you can add those little beanie baby dolls, as someone must collect those damn things .

Freddie’s list has been great for me as when I’m on the road I can access it. It’s nice not having to ever remember a want list as you can bring up your collection at the hotel or a card shop to verify whether you have a need or not of a card you have come across.

So what I’m saying is if you can scan it or take a picture of it then it should be added not dropped. Now flaw cards like blank front or backs aren’t added unless there is more then just one. Oversize cards never should get listed, as they are just back door sheet cut outs.

I was only referring to cards that were cut out of something else, like the back of a box, out of a sheet in a magazine, stuff like that. I really feel that if we are listing the card then we should really be listing the item that it was cut from.

I do respect your opinion though and won't remove the items from the list. When I have time I will do something to seperate "cards" and "non cards". I feel that game cards, APBA, Team Out, etc are valid cards and do belong on the "cards" list.

I do want to compile a list of all cutout cards so that I can edit the description to highlight that this item was cutout of something. I always assumed that the Keebler card was a valid card but I've now got an entire sheet of Ranger's Keebler cards that shows me that this item is really a cut out. I didn't know that and I want to make sure others don't assume the same.

If you can help, please start listing cards that you know are cutout card and what they were cutout of if possible.

Yes, it does sound nice to be able to walk into a card shop and ask the owner to pull up the list so you can check off cards that they have to sell. Just wish there was a card shop around here that didn't try to charge full book for every card.

I simply think that only items officially licensed by MLB or the players assn should be on the list. That includes Starting Lineups and some of the oddball stuff like the Hamburger Helper card. The magazine cards do not fall into that category.

I'm thinking some sort of categories would be the answer. Each item on the list would have a small icon that signified its category and you could sort by all categories or a specific category. Need to flesh out the categories.

Thank God we all have different opinions on what should be in a collection. To me my BYN cards of the 80's as well a my Baseball Card Magazine cards of 1992 were great finds and additions to my collection even without the MLB approval.

I hate that Hamburger Helper card as a box of that stuff on my shelf just doesn't do my collection much justice even with the MLB approval
